This Privacy Policy explains how ACWatchdog ("we," "us," or "our") handles information in connection with the website at acwatchdog.com (the "Site"). We keep data collection to a minimum, and this policy describes what we do collect, why, and the choices you have.
The Site is intended for visitors in the United States and Canada. It is not directed at people in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or other regions, and we do not knowingly aim our services there.
The short version
We do not ask you to create an account, we do not run a newsletter, and there is nowhere on the Site for you to submit content. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not currently show third-party ads. The main things happening are ordinary web-server logging, a single cookie that remembers your country, and affiliate links to retailers. The details follow.
Information we collect
Information collected automatically (server logs)
Like most websites, our hosting servers automatically record standard technical information each time the Site is visited. This may include your IP address, browser type, device and operating system, the pages you view, the page that referred you, and the date and time of your visit. We and our hosting provider use this log information in aggregate to understand traffic, keep the Site secure, and diagnose technical problems. We do not use it to build a profile of you or to identify you personally.
The AC Finder tool
The AC Finder processes the details you enter, such as room dimensions and preferences, in order to calculate a cooling recommendation for you. We do not currently store what you enter or connect it to your identity. In the future we may collect anonymous, aggregated statistics about how the tool is used (for example, which options are chosen most often) so we can improve it. Any such statistics would not identify you.
What we do not collect
We do not operate user accounts, logins, newsletters, or contact or comment forms, and there is no facility for visitors to submit content. As a result, we do not collect names, email addresses, or similar personal details from you in the ordinary course of using the Site. If you choose to email us directly, we will have whatever information you include in your message.
Cookies
A cookie is a small text file stored by your browser. We currently use a single first-party cookie that remembers the country you select (United States or Canada) so the Site can show you relevant pricing and retailers. This cookie stores only your country choice, contains no personal information, and is not used to track you across other websites.
We may introduce additional cookies in the future, for example to support site analytics or to remember other preferences. If we do, we will update this policy to describe them. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings; if you block the country cookie, the Site will simply fall back to its default region.
Affiliate links and disclosure
ACWatchdog takes part in affiliate programs, including the Amazon Associates Program. Some links on the Site are affiliate links, which means that if you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
Affiliate relationships never influence our rankings, scores, or recommendations. When you click an affiliate link and leave our Site, the retailer you land on is a separate company that will handle your information under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review.
Advertising
We do not currently display third-party advertising on the Site. If that changes, we will update this policy to identify any advertising partners and describe the information they collect.
Links to other websites
The Site links to retailers, manufacturers, and other third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites. Once you follow a link away from the Site, this policy no longer applies, and you should read the privacy policy of the site you visit.
How we use information
We use the limited information described above to operate and maintain the Site, to keep it secure and diagnose problems, to understand in aggregate how the Site is used so we can improve it, and to comply with legal obligations.
How we share information
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. We may share information only in these limited circumstances: with the hosting and service providers we rely on to run the Site, and only as needed for that purpose; when required to do so by law or valid legal process; and to protect the rights, property, or safety of ACWatchdog or others.
Data security and retention
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited information handled through the Site. However, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Server log information is retained for a limited period, in line with our hosting provider's practices and our own operational and security needs, and is then discarded or overwritten.
Children's privacy
The Site is intended for a general adult audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to address it.
Your rights and choices
Because we collect very little information and do not maintain accounts, there is generally little personal data for us to act on. That said:
- Canada (PIPEDA): You may ask what personal information, if any, we hold about you, request that it be corrected, and ask questions about how we handle it.
- United States: Depending on your state, you may have rights to access or delete personal information or to opt out of its "sale." We do not sell personal information. You may contact us to exercise any rights that apply to you.

Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
